Government Unveils MakerSpace at CedarBridge Academy: A Home for Bermuda’s Creative Community

MakerSpace

On Thursday, December 5th, 2024, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport officially opened Bermuda’s first MakerSpace at CedarBridge Academy. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by the Hon. Owen Darrell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, marked a significant step forward in fulfilling the Government’s commitment to supporting Bermuda’s creative talent. Joining Minister Darrell was the Hon. Diallo Rabain, Minister of Education, Senator Lindsay Simmons and CedarBridge Academy Principal Kenneth Caesar, along with a host of local artists and performers showcasing the space's potential.

The MakerSpace initiative, announced as part of the 2023 Throne Speech, is designed to provide local creatives—including visual artists, musicians, dancers, and performers—free access to spaces where they can hone their craft and collaborate. CedarBridge Academy serves as the first location for this program, with facilities tailored to meet the needs of Bermuda’s vibrant creative community. Minister Darrell emphasized the importance of this milestone while speaking at the event. “This is more than a space; it’s a promise kept to our creatives,” said Minister Darrell. “The MakerSpace is a work in progress, and this launch represents the first phase of an exciting journey. We’ve listened to our creative community, and today is just the beginning of what we plan to build together. We are investing in the immense talent on our island, creating opportunities for collaboration, and providing a platform for expression.”
