Minister Adams Inspects Completed Scaur Hill Safety Enhancement Works

Scaur Hill Completion

The Minister of Public Works and Environment, the Hon. Jache Adams, JP, MP, visited the completed Scaur Hill enhancement project today, commending the Ministry's technical officers for successfully delivering the critical safety improvement on time and on budget.

The extensive works began on 30 September 2024 and involved reconstructing a 230-foot retaining wall along Somerset Road, ensuring long-term stability and safety for motorists and area residents. The road is now fully open, following the removal of temporary alternative traffic routes last week.

Minister Adams highlighted the project as a demonstration of the Government's ability to strengthen Bermuda's infrastructure through expert planning and execution.

"This is an excellent example of the Ministry's technical expertise. I commend Principal Highways Engineer Tina Beer-Searle, Principal Structural Engineer Austin Kenny, and Structural Engineer Jean-Marc Colmet, who played pivotal roles in delivering this project successfully.

"Their dedication, alongside the wider team, makes infrastructure progress like this possible," Minister Adams said.

He also recognised the contributions of his predecessor, Lt. Col. the Hon. David Burch, OBE (Mil), ED, JP, who initiated the project.

“I want to thank Col. Burch for laying the groundwork for this essential project. His commitment to infrastructure development has made a lasting impact, and this completion reflects the vision and diligence of those who came before me.”

The Minister extended special thanks to area residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the project, particularly those who generously allowed the Government to use their properties for temporary traffic routing.

“The willingness of residents to accommodate temporary road diversions was a remarkable show of community spirit. Their patience and generosity were key to ensuring construction proceeded as smoothly as possible," he added.

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to enhancing safety and infrastructure resilience across Bermuda and will continue applying technical expertise to future projects that improve public safety and connectivity.
