Registration is now open for the 2026 Bermuda Parish Garden Competition, an island-wide initiative encouraging residents, schools, and community groups to take part in home and community gardening. Interested participants can register and find out more information by visiting https://www.gov.bm/garden-competition. All registration forms must be submitted by 20 February.
The competition, facilitated by the Grow Eat Save programme and in partnership with the Department of Health and the Department of Parks, aims to support healthier living, improve access to fresh produce and reinforce local sustainability efforts.
“Gardening provides an opportunity for households and communities to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables while supporting overall wellness,” said The Hon. Kim Wilson, Minister of Health, JP, MP. “I encourage residents across Bermuda to register and participate as we continue to promote gardening as a practical and rewarding activity that supports physical health, mental wellbeing, and community connection.”
Registration for the competition is free and open to everyone. The competition begins on 23 February and will run until 22 May. Participants will also have access to virtual garden support sessions.
Entrants will be required to submit photographs of their gardens, along with a brief description of their preparation and items planted, 25 and 29 May. Judging will take place from 1 to 12 June. Winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony scheduled June 2026.
The 2026 competition includes the following categories: School Garden, Community Garden, Non-Traditional Garden, Small Garden (less than 10ft x 10ft), and Large Garden (10ft x 10ft and larger).
Judging criteria include maintenance, design, intent, sustainability, and additional garden features. Participants are also encouraged to take photographs of any produce entered into the Agricultural Exhibition, held 23 to 25 April, as a bonus submission.
