Environmental Health officers have a duty to ensure conditions in both homes and tourist accommodations are safe and provide a healthy environment.
They do so by ensuring compliance with the Hotels (Licensing and Control) Regulations 1976 (in partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority), Bermuda Housing Act 1980 and the Bermuda Housing (Minimum Standards) Regulations 2002.
As such, the officers:
- Ensure safe and sanitary housing conditions
- Respond to complaints, provide advice and seek compliance from owners and tenants
- Inspect and monitor hotels, guest houses, time shares, camp sites and emergency shelters
The officers also provide referrals to those seeking mould testing or removal.
