Repair Work Begins to Restore Gibbs Hill Lighthouse
The Department of Marine and Ports Services is presently working on repairing the electric drive gearbox motor at the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Earlier this week, the light ceased rotating due to a mechanical malfunction in the engine, prompting its immediate shutdown.
The Department of Marine and Ports Services has since removed the motor and started rebuilding it while procuring parts from overseas distributors. Due to the motor's age, the Department is unable to provide a definitive completion date; however, efforts are underway.
The spokesperson of the Department of Marine and Ports Services emphasized, "The Gibbs Hill Lighthouse holds significant cultural importance and is an iconic landmark in Bermuda. We are dedicated to restoring it to full operation."
