Transformational Living Centre Celebrates First Family Graduates
The Transformational Living Centre for Families (TLC), a signature program of The Women’s Resource Centre, proudly celebrated a landmark event on Sunday, July 7, 2024, with the graduation of its first four families. The ceremony, held at the TLC premises, was attended by the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, Tinee Furbert, special guests and the dedicated staff of TLC. In her address, Minister Furbert highlighted the significance of this milestone and acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the TLC Advisory Board, led by Chairperson Elaine Butterfield and her team. "Your commitment to this cause has laid the foundation for this momentous occasion. Thank you for your vision, your hard work, and your passion," stated Minister Furbert.
Minister Furbert's speech emphasized the remarkable achievements of the graduating families who have shown exceptional courage and resilience throughout their journey. “To our graduating families, you are the heart of this celebration. Each of you has embarked on a journey that required courage, strength, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of a brighter future. The Transformational Living Centre has not only provided you with a haven but has equipped you with the tools to heal, grow, and thrive.”
The Transformational Living Centre, a therapeutic programme, was opened to the public in February 2022 as the signature programme of The Women's Resource Centre. The TLC's residential component provides steady, secure housing for up to 9 families at a time. In addition to housing, the TLC offers an empowering and supportive environment for resident families to grow. Wrap-around services include skills education, employment support, and parenting skills, in addition to counselling and case management. Through these services, families are empowered to move forward with more independent and sustainable lives post-graduation.
TLC Advisory Board Chairperson Elaine Butterfield stated, “Over the past several months, our first four families have engaged in a comprehensive range of developmental, educational, and therapeutic programs at TLC. They have received personalized support from case managers and other support services, ensuring they are well-prepared to embark on their new, independent lives. We are truly proud of them.”
Minister Furbert concluded her speech with encouragement and hope for the future, reminding the graduates of their strength and potential. "Your journey inspires us all. It reminds us of the power of community, the importance of support, and the extraordinary potential within each of us. As you move forward, carry with you the knowledge that you are capable, you are strong, and you are deserving of every success that comes your way."
The Transformational Living Centre remains committed to providing secure housing and comprehensive support services to families who are in need. This graduation marks the beginning of a brighter future for these families and sets a powerful example for others to follow.
