New Director of Financial Assistance
Today, the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors announced Mr. Charles Clarke’s appointment as the Director of the Department of Financial Assistance for the Government of Bermuda.
Mr. Clarke will assume responsibility for the overall management and operation of the Department of Financial Assistance, including programme planning and financial, personnel, and administrative functions. He is also responsible for reviewing and developing policy and monitoring and evaluating financial assistance programmes and services.
The Department of Financial Assistance assesses Bermudians who may need a financial award to meet a minimum standard of living. The Department evaluates required documents/information to determine the eligibility for an award within the legislative guidelines.
Mr. Clarke has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Hotel Management from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (Princess Anne, Maryland), and a Master of Arts (MA) in Human Resource Development from Webster University (Saint Louis, Missouri).
Mr. Clarke has held several managerial positions, including Assistant Executive Housekeeper/ Southampton Princess Hotel, Customer Service Manager/ M3 Wireless, and Banking and Credit Manager/ Bermuda Telephone Company.
Mr. Clarke began his career in the Public Service in 1996, serving until 2005. During this time, he worked at the Bermuda Post Office as a Supervisor at the Airport Airmail Facility. He was later seconded to the Transport Control Department, where he held the roles of Registration Manager and Acting Director of TCD.
Mr. Clarke returned to the Public Service in 2016, resuming the role of Registration Manager at the Transport Control Department. He maintained this position until August 12th, 2024, when he was appointed Director of the Department of Financial Assistance.
