TOYA Hosts Successful 'Big Up Yaself' Mini Youth Conference

The Office of Youth Affairs (TOYA) hosted the second annual 'Big Up Yaself' National Mini Youth Conference at The Botanical Gardens on the 30th and 31st of January 2025. Senior school students attended on the first day, while primary and middle school students took part on the second, creating an inclusive learning environment. Around 250 students participated in interactive workshops focused on personal growth and mental wellness, in line with the Government’s National Youth Policy.
Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, praised the event’s impact, stating, "The conference effectively delivered vital messages on mental health. Attendees enjoyed activities in their own ways, and many shared that they learned how to understand their feelings, find support, and use coping strategies.
“They particularly enjoyed the experiments and movement sessions. I am deeply grateful to entertainers Mr. Fotogenik and Ponaflex for their contributions. Their ability to connect with children, making them smile, laugh, learn, and most importantly, feel like they always belong, is truly remarkable and is delivered with a distinctive Bermudian flair.”
A standout moment was Ponaflex’s performance on the second day, which energised students with messages of self-confidence and resilience. His dynamic set and ability to engage the audience made a lasting impression, further reinforcing the event’s theme of empowerment.
Plans are already underway for next year’s conference to continue empowering Bermuda’s youth. For more information, visit www.toyaevents.bm.
