Road Safety Council Press Conference

Good morning everyone,
It is a pleasure to be here today as we recognise the dedicated service of Mr Dennis Lister III, who has served as Chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council since 2018.
Over the past six years, Mr Lister has led the Council with dedication, creativity, and a clear passion for improving road safety in Bermuda. Under his leadership, the Council launched its official website and social media platforms...an important step in making road safety messages more accessible and engaging for the wider public.
He was instrumental in integrating the national Transportation Plan into the Council’s initiatives and took proactive steps to support safe transport at major public events, such as the sponsorship of transportation for the One Love Promotions event in May 2022.
In 2021, Mr Lister helped reinstate the Junior Road Safety Council, giving young people the knowledge and encouragement to become responsible road users. He also established the annual Road Safety Week in 2022, which continues to be a key fixture in the Council’s calendar and an important platform for public education.
His forward-thinking approach led to the creation of the BRSC TV Podcast “Stay In Your Lane”, offering a fresh and informative way to discuss road safety issues. Likewise, the “Hello Summer” campaign, launched in 2023, helped promote responsible road use during the island’s busiest season.
Throughout his tenure, the Council has also run numerous awareness campaigns and built strong partnerships with organisations including the Bermuda Police Service, Planet Math, BF&M, Auto Solutions, Bacardi, Cycle Care and many more...creating a truly community-wide effort to improve road safety.
Most recently, the Ministry was pleased to partner with the Road Safety Council to sponsor ferry transportation from Hamilton to Dockyard for the Pastels party this past Sunday. This initiative ensured that attendees had access to safe and reliable transport to and from the event, highlighting the importance of planning ahead and choosing responsible options when travelling to large gatherings. It’s another example of the kind of practical, thoughtful action that helps prevent road incidents and supports safer choices.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Bermuda, I extend heartfelt thanks to Mr Lister for his commitment and many contributions during his time as Chair.
As we turn the page to a new chapter, I am pleased to welcome Mr Altonio Roberts as the new Chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council. Mr Roberts brings with him a strong sense of purpose and a deep commitment to community service. I am confident that under his guidance, the Council will continue to build on its strong foundations and make further strides in keeping our roads safe.
Thank you.
