Premier Burt meets Prime Minister of Luxembourg
The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, visited Luxembourg yesterday, 24 March, to conduct a series of high-level meetings with senior government officials, financial institutions, and industry leaders, advancing Bermuda's interests in international finance, insurance, and investment.
At the governmental level, the Premier met with Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg and Gilles Roth, Minister of Finance. These meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, discuss matters of international finance, and highlight Bermuda's track record as a compliant, transparent, and well-regulated international business jurisdiction.
Premier Burt also met with Ioannis Tsakiris, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), to explore opportunities for technical support and investment partnerships.
Additionally, the Premier held a meeting with Nicolas Limbourg, President, and Marc Hengen, Managing Director, of the Luxembourg Insurance and Reinsurance Association (ACA). The discussions underscored the shared interests of Bermuda and Luxembourg as leading global insurance and reinsurance jurisdictions, and reinforced Bermuda's continued commitment to maintaining its Solvency II equivalence with the European Union.
On the visit, Premier Burt said, “Our message to partners in Luxembourg and across the EU remains consistent: Bermuda is a trusted, compliant, and forward-looking partner. We are committed to engaging constructively on international finance, and to ensuring that our jurisdiction remains at the forefront of global finance and innovation.”
The Premier was supported on this visit by Financial Secretary, Chidozie Ofoego and Aliyyah Ahad, Director & EU Representative, Brussels Office.
Premier Burt has now returned to London, where he will attend the Premier of a new documentary celebrating the life and legacy of Bermudian football pioneer Clyde Best MBE before returning to Bermuda on Thursday.
