Holiday relief or respite care is a temporary stay service extended to caregivers who need or want a break for up to one month. All temporary stays should be arranged through the nurse coordinator and are based on bed availability.
The elder will be required to present a letter from their GP and to book an appointment for an on-site assessment.
Day care runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:45 p.m., and not on public holidays.
How to place an elder at the Sylvia Richardson Care Facility
Families or community members who are interested in placing an elder at Lefroy House must first contact a doctor or community health worker. Elders must be referred by a physician to the Geriatric Assessment Planning and Placement (GAPP) Team at the hospital. Not every person referred to the GAPP team is recommended for nursing home placement.
A staff member from the Department of Community Health team will come to the elder’s home to perform an assessment. The GAPP team may recommend an elder be placed in a nursing home, rest home, or remain at home with additional home-care services.
There may be a wait time for all admissions.
Cost of Care
The cost of care will depend upon the required category of care and financial ability. For your convenience, payment of fees for residents can be made online.
